Bozeman Film Fest screens 'Winter in the Blood'
7:30 PM
Emerson Center's Crawford Theater
Description:
The Bozeman Film Festival and Ranchwater Films are pleased to announce a special screening of Winter In The Blood Friday, May 9th at 7:30 pm in the Emerson's Crawford Theater. Come early for a Meet and Greet social hour with director Andrew Smith beginning at 6:30 pm in the Lobby! Smith will introduce the film, as well as host a Q&A after the screening.
In their first movie since The Slaughter Rule, twin directors Alex and Andrew Smith have made a hauntingly beautiful film that is true to the lyrical and unflinching spirit of James Welch's classic 1974 novel of Native American life. Virgil First Raise (Chaske Spencer), a Blackfoot Indian, wakes in a ditch on the hardscrabble plains of Montana, hungover and badly beaten. He returns to his ranch on the reservation to find that his wife, Agnes, (Julia Jones) has left him. Worse, she's taken his beloved rifle. Virgil sets out to town find her-- or perhaps just the gun-- beginning a hi-line odyssey of inebriated and possibly imagined intrigues in town with the mysterious 'Airplane Man', (David Morse) a beautiful barmaid, and two dangerous Men in Suits. Are they real... or spirits guiding him away from his true path? Virgil's quest brings him face-to-face with childhood memories of his beloved, lost brother Mose.
The recipient of the first Montana Film Office Big Sky Film Grant, Winter In The Blood was filmed around the Montana Hi-Line communities of Havre, Chinook, the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy Reservations and all points between with strong community and tribal involvement. "That sense of reality and storytelling coming together is especially strong," declares Kenneth Turan of the L.A. Times.
Rated PG-13, the film runs 105 minutes and also features Michael Spears (Dances with Wolves) and an appearance by associate producer Sherman Alexie. Tickets are $8/General and $7/Students & Seniors, available beginning April 25th at Cactus Records and in the Emerson's lobby one hour before the film.
