Author Event with Carrie La Seur
7:00 PM
Country Bookshelf
Alma thought she was done with Montana, with its bleak winters and its backward ways. After all, she's the only Terrebonne who ever got out. But an unexpected call from the sheriff pulls her back in. Vicky--the troubled sister, the lying sister, the sister who stayed--is dead of exposure after a night in the brutal cold. Alma returns home to bury her sister and discovers that Vicky's death may not have been an accident. But in a small town where everyone knows everyone, who could have killed her?

The Home Place is a story of secrets that will not stay buried, human threads that will not break, and crippling memories that will not be silenced. It is a story of rural towns and runaways, of tensions both corporate and racial, of childhood trauma and adolescent betrayal, and of the guilt that never sleeps. But most of all, it is a story of home.

Carrie La Seur is an environmental lawyer in Billings, Montana. She earned a doctorate in modern languages from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, a law degree from Yale, and a bachelor's degree magna cum laude from Bryn Mawr College. She is a licensed private pilot who hikes, skis, and fishes the Montana wilderness with her family in her spare time.
