To make creative fun that much easier, the Equinox Theatre Company will be permanently consolidating its theater classes for kids on Saturday mornings. Weekend times and one central location makes these fun, challenging and rewarding classes a can't-miss for the new school year. Restless kids at home? Creative performers waiting to blossom? Shy ones in need of an outlet? The Equinox Theatre Acting School is ready to help with improv and musical theater for kids looking for fun and creative challenges! The Equinox Theatre's Acting School has had a hand in nurturing Bozeman kids' creativity for over ten years, and is recognized nationally and internationally by educational and grant-making organizations like the National Endowment for the Arts, Montana Arts Council and Mountain Sky Guest Ranch Foundation.
This winter, Equinox puts its best dance step forward with our musical theater classes, taught by our very own Erin Roberg. These classes will focus on the exciting and challenging production of a selection from a Broadway musical. Under Erin's professional tutelage, the students will explore the entire rehearsal process from choreography through singing, dancing and acting rehearsals to the creation of a fully realized production number. These two classes offer this great opportunity to two age groups: third through fifth grade, and also sixth through eighth grade.
In addition to the musical class, the kids' improv teams revolve around games and techniques that focus on jump-starting the imagination, teamwork, storytelling, character voices and body choices, and a huge helping of fun. Many of the games used are the same ones audiences in the Gallatin Valley have enjoyed during Spontaneous Combustibles or Equinox Comedy Death Match performances. These two classes are also for young ones ranging from third through fifth, and then sixth through eighth grades.
Equinox's professional staff brings years of experience from regional theaters around the country to the table, as well as an approach that balances technical excellence and a nose for fun! Shayna Gibson and Erin Roberg, of the Equinox Theatre Acting Company and Camp Equinox, are the two instructors of these four classes, and bring a combined twenty years of professional theatrical teaching and performance experience into play, and each create a caring, high-energy, delightful class dynamic.
All classes take place at the Equinox Theatre. The musical theater and improv classes are for 3rd through 8th graders and begin on January 12th and run weekly through March 1. Students can even take two classes in a row. Grade 3-5 Musical Theatre runs 10-11 am, and then grade 3-5 Improv runs 11am-12pm. Grade 6-8 Improv runs 10-11 and grade 6-8 musical theatre runs 11am -12pm. There will be a final performance for the kids classes at the Equinox Theater on March 1.
