Bhutto chronicles the rise to power of Pakistan's first woman prime minister, and her untimely assassination. Benazir Bhutto was the first woman to lead a Muslim nation. Her death came amidst a maelstrom of political controversy and religious tensions that have forever more cemented Bhutto's place in history as one of the most genuine and courageous leaders of our time.
Siegel
A panel discussion will be held after Bhutto with a special guest, Mark A. Siegel, one of the film's producers. Mr. Siegel was also a close friend of Benazir Bhutto, the subject of this film. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Northwestern University. He has since become one of the world's foremost experts on political parties and political behavior. Siegel has served as Executive Director of the Democratic National Committee, a member of the Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and has officially represented Pakistan three times in Washington D.C. He was Ms. Bhutto's speechwriter for two decades, and collaborated with her on the international bestselling book "Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy and the West" which was published shortly after her assassination. Siegel has taught at the American University and at the George Washington University where he headed the University's Semester in Washington Program. He currently lectures in Speech Writing and Speech Presentation at Columbia University. Siegel has written extensively for major newspapers in the United States and around the world, and frequently appears on television as a political analyst. He served as the Today Show's on-air expert on the Electoral College during the presidential recount in 2000, and for three national conventions served as political consultant to Walter Cronkite.
