A Musical Tour of Scotland
4:00 PM Bozeman Public Library
Description:
The Montana Reel and Strathspey Society announces an upbeat, uplifting and educational program entitled A Musical Tour of Scotland, on Saturday, December 8th, at 4 p.m. at the Large Meeting Room in the Bozeman Public Library.
Members of the group will perform fiery Scottish dance tunes on fiddles, cello, and drum, and will explain the characteristics that define jigs, reels, strathspeys and marches.
The program will also feature haunting, wistful melodies called slow airs. These are pieces that often express the player's separation from a loved one or a separation from one's homeland.
In addition, a singer will sing a Scottish song to harp accompaniment and a Scottish story will be told.
The Montana Reel and Strathspey Society is a group dedicated to active preservation of Scottish music, dance and culture and is affiliated with the Bozeman Folklore Society.
