In the Next Room, or the vibrator play
Sabrina Daldry and Catherine Givings are sexually frustrated with their husbands and are desperate to try an alternative. Meanwhile, Catherine's husband, the prim Doctor Givings, is treating his patients with a new electrical machine. Catherine's curiosity over the strange sounds emanating from his office deliver up the alternative she is seeking and a whole lot more. Come see what the BUZZ is about in this entertaining, funny, provocative and tender play.
This Tony nominated play by Sarah Ruhl pries open Victorian Age sexual mores while revealing the early history of the vibrator as a tool to treat women's "hysteria". Orgasm (or paroxysm) was used to relieve the "symptoms" of hysteria: restlessness, irritability and anger. These days, women use a similar treatment to relieve the same symptoms arising from the ignorance of Republican men in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Shows run at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays from Feb. 8th-23rd. General admission tickets are a mere $12 and a merer $10 for students and seniors.
