Description:
Despite the tragic shortage of live music venues in
the Bozeman area, new groups seem to be sprouting out of the woodworks.
One such group is Professor Kelly & the G-Force (previously known as the
Kelly/Gillan Duo) that will perform outdoors on the lawn at the Pine Creek Cafe
on Saturday, July 5th at 7pm. This Hammond B-3/drum combo performs the
cool, smooth sounds of old school Blues, Soul, and R&B.
Organist/vocalist George Kelly was born and raised in Helena, Arkansas, where he
was steeped in the blues music tradition of the Mississippi River delta
lands. Mr. Kelly has over 30 years of experience playing as a solo artist
as well as in duos, trios, and in band situations, stylin' artists such as
Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Sam and Dave, and Otis Redding. Other
influences include Hammond B-3 greats Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff,
Groove Holmes, and Lonnie Smith - musicians that helped the organ and its Leslie
speaker sound take their place in the Hall of Fame of classic instruments of our
time. Supporting Mr. Kelly's smooth B-3 grooves is drummer Mike
Gillan. Mr. Gillan has been a fixture on the Gallatin/Park county music
seen for more than 30 years, performing in countless musical situations
including the Compact Bigtimes, the Loose Tubes, Montana Rose, Kool Country
Knights, the Fossils, the Shuffle Bums, and currently Backburner and a new Salsa
band, Poco Loco. Mike spent his childhood in the San Francisco Bay Area,
learning to drum in the shadows of Bay Area greats Tower of Power, Sly and the
Family Stone, and Santana, among other influences too numerous to
mention.
