Rock & Soul - Golden Grenade CD Release Party – www.goldengrenademusic.com
Free show following Music on Main
On Thursday, June 28th Golden Grenade is hosting a free CD release party at The Zebra at
9:30pm after the first Music on Main featuring The Clintons.
Golden Grenade is a new Bozeman band who set out to do the impossible; make a
relevant, national level studio album that could be shuffled in a playlist with big names
like Jack White, The Black Keys, or Lenny Kravitz. That sounds tough but doable, right?
Now add in the fact that they had zero fans and zero money, families, and full time jobs.
In spite of the seemingly impossible odds, they laid out an unconventional plan that would
prove to succeed beyond anyoneʼs expectations.
On February 1st Golden Grenade launched their Kickstarter project that told the story of
Dustin Tucker and Levi Kujala dreaming up a band concept but the idea lacked clarity and
drive for a year prior to getting it off the ground. The story picks up one year later on a
day when this fading idea turned into an urgent mission to carry on a legacy.
Dustin Tuckerʼs Dad was singer/songwriter Tex Tucker, the man who played music in the
corner of the Haufbrau and influenced many up and coming Bozeman musicians over the
last 30 years. Tex died on New Years Day of 2011. While Dustin was searching through
Texʼs belongings to find some of his recorded songs to play at the memorial, he realized
that even though heʼd been blessed with Texʼs songwriting talent and musicianship, he
hadnʼt actually done a single thing with it. If Dustin was ever going to build his own
musical legacy, now would be the time.
Dustin inherited Texʼs red Gibson acoustic guitar and immediately found himself writing
multiple songs each week. “That guitar is pre loaded with magic. When I sit down with it
the songs just flow out of me.” said Dustin in a KGLT interview.
As the songs started pouring in, the two guys found bass player Noah Heckmann who was
a great fit for the project because of his dynamic vocals and rhythmic, classic rock bass
playing. “The three of us would meet in what we call ʻthe bunkerʼ and arrange Dustinʼs
song ideas into finished songs in a matter of minutes, itʼs been a pretty magical music
making experience.” said Levi in an interview with Michelle Wolfe on 95.1 the Moose.
Dustin Tucker and Levi Kujala are founding members of two of the most recognized
bands in the state, Pinky and The Floyd and The Clintons. In the last few years, Dustinʼs
Pink Floyd tribute band has made a name for themselves in Bozeman, Butte, and Missoula
selling out theaters in each town. Levi manages and books The Clintons who started in
Bozeman in 1999 and have gone on to sell over 30,000 records and gross over a million
dollars without touring outside of Montana. In late 2010 Levi launched a Kickstarter
project to fund The Clintonsʼ 7th album which went on to raise$22,000 in 30 days, an
experience that would help him do the same for Golden Grenade with Dustinʼs help.
The entire experience was an emotional and logistical roller coaster that the band plans to
elaborate on in a documentary with the working title Move Me - The Making of Golden
Grenade to be released later this year. The mini documentary will chronicle the band
getting itʼs start, the fundraising tour, and the making of the album in Nashville with
Bozeman native, Andrew Petroff and his production partner Chris Kimmerer.
