Equinox
Theatre is importing talent from across the country to inform its big
city quality, small town charm theatrical vision. This April, the
comic mad scientists have tapped New York director Emily Campbell to
direct a new play by stars of national public radio and television
comedy. The Book of Liz was penned by David Sedaris, author of Equinox
favorite The Santaland Diaries and his sister Amy, of Strangers with
Candy from Comedy Central.
In The Book of Liz, Sister Elizabeth Donderstock makes the
cheese balls (traditional and smoky) that sustain her religious
community. She feels underappreciated, however, and sets out to find
her fortune in the outside world. What follows is a delightful,
strange and uprorious odyssey as Liz forges her way into the world of
overpasses and minimalls. The New York Times called The Book of Liz "a
delightfully off-key, off-color hymn to cliches we all live by, whether
we know it or not."
