Description:
Shawn Wyckoff (flute) and Maria Millar (violin) -graduates of The Juilliard School - will explore the ties between folk and classical music from the European and American traditions. Using dance rhythms and commonalities in melody & harmony as a departure point, Maria and Shawn will involve the audience with lively sing-alongs, a Q & A session and historical commentary on each work performed. Repertoire will draw from the Baroque and Classical Periods (Bach, Telemann and Mozart), Irish folk music (traditional airs, jigs, slip jigs and reels), and American traditional music (folk, blues, patriotic songs and tunes composed by Stephen Foster). Shawn and Maria’s unique personalities will inspire and uplift the audience with tales of their musical journeys. Utilizing two of the most popular and versatile instruments of all time, the duo will treat the audience to a thoroughly-entertaining, organically-educational concert experience!
