Workshop Series with Lark Gilmer-Smothermom: Lighting (Ambient & Flash)
Spend an exciting day discovering how to best work with natural light, ambient light and flash to enhance your images. Light is the key to every photograph. To be a competent photographer, it is necessary to understand the basics of how light works.
In the workshop's introductory lecture, learn why it's all about the shadows and how to "see" light. What is color temperature and what exactly is the color of daylight? Get a painting by number overview in Lightroom. Next, get the real deal need to know overview of on-camera functions and settings. Learn when to use scene modes with on-camera flash and how to set up and use a custom white balance. Make all that gear communicate via hot shoe and PC connections. Know what the difference is between TTL metering and a hand held light meter. Use your new skills to determine when to add light or take it away.
In the afternoon, immerse yourself in light. Learn to harness Mother Nature in a live lighting demo using the tools of the trade. From ambient light to flash, get comfortable with using light modifiers and other tricks and tools to add or subtract light from your pictures.
Your instructor, Lark Gilmer-Smothermon will introduce you to these and other concepts. Gilmer-Smothermon brings decades of professional photographic experience to her teaching, along with a fluency in the language of photo editing, and a mix of creative chutzpah, technical prowess and an understanding of how a photographic image needs to perform in today's world. The class meets from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. Saturday, February 23rd and costs $174.99. There are class pre-requisites and pre-registration is required.
Coming in March: Still Life, Portraiture with Studio Lighting, and Food with Studio Lighting. Pre-registration is required for these workshops and the Digital Darkroom 101, offered on February 16th, is a pre-requisite to the the four classes in this workshop series.
