Description:
Oils and Pastels by Mary Ann Cherry Exhibit - STUNNING!

The Lewistown Art Center is proud to present a stunning exhibit of original oil and pastel paintings by Mary Ann Cherry of Idaho Falls, ID in the Wilkins Gallery from July 1-26. Mary Ann Cherry is the sister of longtime Art Center member, David Lloyd of Lewistown who introduced the Art Center to Cherry’s dazzling talent. Lloyd recently retired as the principal of Hobson, MT school.

There will be an Open House and Artist’s Reception for Mary Ann Cherry and her fabulous work on Friday, July 11th from 5-7 p.m. sponsored by the Lewistown Art Center’s Board of Directors. Everyone is invited and as always, admission is FREE!

Mary Ann Cherry’s exquisite exhibit is sponsored by Ruth Campbell and Daughters of the Box Elder Ranch in the Judith Mountains.

Mary Ann likes to work ‘big’ and many of her paintings measure 2' x 3' or more. Cherry works in soft pastel, watercolor and oils. Cherry’s studio is near the Snake River in Idaho, where wildlife and birds are abundant. Consequently, wildlife and animals are a favorite choice of subject.

Some of Cherry’s paintings in Wilkins Gallery collection feature bison, mountain sheep, bob cats, leopards, swans, herons and a mountain lion. Cherry is comfortable with any subject matter and is a prolific painter. "Sunset Rescue" is a dynamic painting of calvary soldiers rescuing a wagon train camp. Cherry’s rooster, titled "Watchdog of the Barnyard" is a colorful and cheery work that lifts the spirit! Landscapes titled "First Cutting-Montana Hay Season" and "Pond at Three Forks" are lovely and conjure up familiar visions of central Montana. Cherry accepts commissions.

Cherry is a signature member of both the Pastel Society of America and the Women Artists of the West. She is co-founder of the Pastel Society of the Northern Rockies. She is also a member of the Snake River Plein Air Painters in Idaho Falls. Cherry recently won Best of Show, the Founders Award and Best Pastel at the 2007 Phippen Museum national juried show in Prescott, Arizona.

Cherry has been featured in the Wildlife Art Magazine’s "Artists’ Viewpoint." She’s also been a finalist in both the Pastel Journal Magazines’s "Pastel 100" competition and the American Artist’s Magazine’s annual competition. Cherry won the first statewide parks competition, "Idaho Paints Idaho," with her pastel "Hot Day at Massacre Rocks."
