Hooked on Claws
7:00 PM Museum of the Rockies
Description:
HOOKED ON CLAWS: KILLING METHODS OF BIRDS OF PREY AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE TO THEROPOD DINOSAURS
The Museum’s own Denver Fowler has recently completed a study showing that the variety of claw sizes and shapes seen in birds of prey reflects variation in capture and kill technique—information that has some serious implications for the behavior of small meat-eating dinosaurs like Deinonychus and Velociraptor. This lecture features video footage and photographs of birds of prey killing and eating other animals; footage similar to TV nature documentaries, but possibly unsuitable for young or sensitive children.
